2020: The New Déjà Vu

I literally (and accidentally) walked passed the garage of Tasmania’s largest comic seller yesterday as I was waiting for my vehicle to be checked.

This was the first comic that I saw from the road as it was displayed prominently in the center of the shop.

This is NOT an April fools’ day joke. See Dave’s card and auto receipt above right – both received within about 1 hour of each other.

Dave thought I was someone else and had another book waiting (some compendium about huts.) So I asked how much was the IJ comic, and he said it was $5. I opened my bag and pulled a fiver straight out (the only note left.) “It was meant to be.” He said.

“The next Indy film may involve Indy’s quest for the fabled KING SOLOMON’S MINES, but with a twist – this time, INDY has to fight the DEVIL to get the jewels.” – Indy III comic (p4. 1985)

Based on the comic’s speculated “Indy III” to-be, this is my extremely brief visualization of it, with the last act moving into how the expeditionary story is eventually monetized via film (a film of the expedition itself, within the film) in order to help sway public opinion as to who is the true discoverer of King Solomon’s treasures. However, the expedition’s filmmaker is actually an agent of Andy Barry and two versions of the film are made, with a battle as to which gets released!

So who ends up getting the fortune and glory? It’s loot after all isn’t it?

Innerspace Trailer #1 (1987)

Innerspace (1987) Trailer #1

I saw this film as a child in Israel in January 1988 (sub-titled cinema.) It blew me away. I actually got what a character arc should look like.

Martin Short’s character started off as a somewhat timid store clerk and then ends up beating up bad guys on some stairs (0:54 above) without even needing initial encouragement from Dennis Quaid’s character inside him.

“Now Jack’s got twice the problems, but he’s double the man… with Tuck on his side, in his gut, and on his case. And only 24 hours left for Jack to get out of danger, so that Tuck can get out of Jack.” (0:47 above)

What would Serve the Serpent (as an Innerspace II-type story) look like, if the father had to live through the daughter and vice versa (using technology)?

Imagine if the father’s voice within her was one day hijacked by a demon and the father’s voice within her started to work against her?

– the tagline for the top poster would be “You can’t mess with him because of who he’s with” (that would appeal to a more female audience too – the arc enables this shift)

notes: Last Boy Scout (1991) vibe where rebellious daughter must team up with father to beat cyborg gang (eg forced prostitution.) Father must find new faith and strength to build bridges with daughter and God. Daughter (and her friends) become action heroes like with John Connor and Terminator 2(1991). At the start he saves her (ie Commando 1985), then she must save him – she arcs into a female version of Connor.
