1997: Don’t Sell Yourself, I Say!

Rather buy into your more authentic self.

In the first half of 1997 I was weightlifting and eating a lot of red meat. I gained about 10% in body weight at my peak.

Because turning 18 wasn’t just about driving and drinking. It was also about weight training, clubs and effortless attraction.

My brother Luke was also going to the gym.

My gear above is 26 Red. The rugby top above is Blanc Bleu. The red/brown shorts are also 26 Red. The white shoes are Air Max 96 and black trainers are Puma. Luke’s top is Ministry-of-Sound (MOS) from London.

Anyway, as part of a uni assignment, I put up a personal page about myself (pic 3 below) and that’s not me in the hammock.

So in 1997, the notion of “selling myself” wasn’t really a thing. You buy into me, I decide if it’s worth it, we make it happen, and that’s it.

Anyway, nothing resulted from that page. But a couple of years earlier I put up a page on my high school site (above right) about myself and a few girls emailed me about it. I didn’t know who they were and didn’t reply. That was my first web page. For this next uni page, I think I wanted to avoid strangers contacting me because the idea of “selling myself” online wasn’t a thing. Who was the person behind the email?

So I had a taxi driver and Deakin University economics lecturer pal Jack Alan who was also weightlifting and was 10 years older. He was of Persian descent and arrived from Buffalo, New York. He had a PhD (or Masters) from New York University regarding stochastic methods in economics and he personally knew Peter from Monash, who Luke also knew, but not personally like Jack.

Initially, Jack drove my dad and I back from somewhere at night in late 1996 and we ended up inviting him into our house for further intellectual discussions. We played tennis a few times and Jack had another buddy of his come along to join us once for a game. We made a number of homemade videos of us cruising around listening to G-funk, sometimes in his red Mazda 121 and other times in my green/blue Nissan Bluebird.

Unfortunately the video tapes were thrown out after selling Washington Street in 2006.

The camera I used to film was below, and like below, I did record another 21st party or two for friends at the time.

The videos were kept in the wooden cabinet if anyone has a time machine! Perhaps some of those videos I took may be floating around somewhere. I think Jack had kept one for himself.

I worked as a busboy in that year at Carousel, (Albert Park) delivered pizzas and controlled the dancefloor lights at Silvers (now Jacksons). I also did mobile DJ’ing with a computer (see pic above) and general event promotions work like dropping flyers and passes. One was for the Whisky aGoGo Friday night at Silvers for the organiser Warren, and I brought Jack to that, and a couple of female friends I knew at the time also came to Silvers. That club was around the corner from Washington Street.

I spoke to Warren initially at Jac’s Bar (upstairs at Silvers) and he was a landscape gardener by day. The “Whisky” night had a few female dancers in hot pants dancing all night on podiums. There was also one guy dancing too.

Additionally, I was rehearing at home with guitarist and school friend Noah, and also upright bassist Lucy but we didn’t do any gigs together. I was also rehearsing at Revolver (when it was a music store) with Kon and Nik after responding to a street press advert and we did do a number of gigs together.

I pushed off a lot of old school friends in order break my comfort zone at the time. Very difficult to do. I don’t know what happened to Jack, maybe he went to the Gold Coast. He was selling protein powders too at the time and was really bulking up. Fun times. We swung by a lot of clubs together. Once at Silvers, he saw some of his own students from uni and they went bananas.

One standout track we bumped was “This DJ” and we considered ourselves as Ticks [1:36: “So I hops in the van with my homie Tick”]

1997 wasn’t all peaches and cream. I failed Accounting and repeated it again in summer. Failing a subject wasn’t something familiar to me. I also cut out alcohol consumption as the hangovers were bad and could knock me about over the next day. Also, I could never fall asleep drunk.. I would just lie awake with my head spinning. I do miss the beer goggles though!

Moreover, I came to the conclusion that drinking was just a way to spend one’s “happiness credits” that would accrue naturally over the week. So being “happy drunk” meant a loss of happiness someplace else during the week during sobriety. In 1997, I explained this to someone drinking at the bar at the Arcadia Hotel and they sort of agreed with me. Lucky I didn’t get kicked out!

The theory explains a lot of why people crave the weekend so badly – just another theory, though.

Yet, at Club Med, Val d’Isere in 1992/93, another skier Matthieu said in a French accent regarding women that “You must attack!” He was around 15 at the time and had a girlfriend, so that was his tip on how to get one because he asked me if I had one and I said ‘no.’

But Club Med had “clubs” anyway for young people to meet one another easily no matter who they were and people met in ski lessons too. Yet what I think he meant was to be confident. Whatever the case, I still enjoyed briefly playing drums at the resort.

Incidentally, a couple of English girls came up and spoke to me after those shots, but we never ended up skiing together, so that was confident by them. I skied with a dude-ette in Zermatt about 20 years later (starting at 1:44,) who was also from England.

Initially, we chatted on the chairlift, pretty mundane stuff, but it took confidence for us to both get to that same point. We took the shots, even without MI6 or Eon Productions.

Speaking of Bond, at what point is confidence infectious enough that it leads to confiding information? On that note, modern interrogation techniques are now more about making a person feel comfortable and asking very pointed questions at different stages of elicitation rather than torture and asking “who sent you?” So offer chicken soup instead of the waterboard. Yet, it is to my understanding that one big risk of interrogations is wrong or altered transcriptions and interviewees should record interviews themselves with their own equipment as backup.

Bustamante has spoken about establishing baselines to determine when someone is out of sync and possibly lying. Happens at airports and wherever dangerous people need to be detected – but how can it detect monarch slaves with disparate personas? Also, who controls VICE? If bankrupt, why is it still running? Is it a loss-leader for controlling narrative? What gets excluded or altered?

Anyway, in Bali, 3 years after France I played with some other guys too at a hotel.

And also met a macaque driven by desire.

Yet, it’s about more than just music and confidence though, but goodwill.

So Matthieu was a great skier and good companion, and on our last day we went off-piste, I think even crossing into Italy, and then took a long bus ride home to make it piste-off.

Speaking of forthcoming, on 25 Jan 1997, I went to the Big Day Out music festival. I rolled up alone and without a ticket in the evening. At the gate, someone was leaving and sold me their ticket for $5. Win. After entering, I said hello to an extended family member who I saw by chance (person I was filming at top in front of fireplace) but then kept walking to the main stage alone. People were all sitting down. Then a girl – complete stranger – walked up to me, paused for about 3 seconds and said: “Do you want to have sex with me?” I became the rock star.

She was attractive too – around my age. I had long hair at the time and still had a tan from schoolies week. But I hesitated. I think I said “I don’t know” and then she said “well do you?” and then I was silent and then she walked off permanently. The whole interaction was easily less than 20 seconds. I can’t fully recall the dialogue, but I told a school mate Cam about it a couple of days later.

So later that night, by chance I saw Marc at the main stage and checked out Soundgarden and started moshing which really wasn’t that enjoyable.

In August 1997 I started listening to Be Here Now by Oasis, and in March the following year I was fortunate enough to attend the one and only Oasis concert in Melbourne. But I preferred to stay tight lipped over it, because of the bad reviews as Liam was so wasted and Noel sang for most of the show.

Oasis were huge in the 90’s when music and media blended so well in a seamless experience and labels had larger sets of artists that they would develop and promote.

Incidentally, I spoke to a random chap in ’97 (maybe the next) at Silvers and he said that he would wait until closing time and walk around the room and keep asking females the same question “Do you want to go home with me?” (or something similar) until he got a yes. I think he spent much the night eye-flirting and trying to look tough and cool among is wing-men. Whatever it was, it worked for him and he said that people that hang around that long are all there for the same reason and would rather have something than nothing. I don’t think he was much older than me either. Each to their own – a spoonman.

As a side note, I saw Mr Gil Dibner walk up and speak to a series of seemingly random females in quick succession at Eurekamp 2009 while in my close proximity. Was he asking the time? Lift back to TA? Investment ideas? Or was he asking them out? Or saying something about me? I hadn’t spoken to any of them.

Nevertheless, the bizarre thing about Marc was that we first met by chance at a beach hotel in Goa, India in the late 80s [below right, at left].

Around 5 years after India he ended up at Wesley College, lived close to my house and we became good friends. He was from New Zealand.

So one day while at home, it all clicked that we had met before and I showed him my diary from India and it even had his name written down. Wild moment but I haven’t seen him in decades as of April, 2024 – like many of my other friends from growing up and these memoirs are a way of retuning myself with the past and upcycling consciousness for the future, whilst corporations monetise them on the sly.

Speaking of which, our school motto was “Dare to be wise” (Sapere aude) but how about “Dare to be different” in a world where fashion can easily become tyranny and what most people are trying to imitate is authenticity.

But this is what’s really in fashion right now: growing old… so can I upcycle out of it using marvellous profundity? Will that activate the etheric 12-strand DNA? How do I bring nourishment into the thousand-petaled lotus and stop the fountain-of-youth from crumbling away?

But that’s only for the yogis and believers in pseudoscience. I’ll take real science any day where if it can’t be measured, it doesn’t exist.

Does growing old have to be about getting old or getting on? Can’t it be about having an indefinite shelf-life like honey and rather growing wise and kind? I’m already part of an unbroken chain back to the patriarchs/matriarchs, so perhaps I am part way there anyway.

Heroes are made, not born, one should hope!  Is life about “God versus the devil” or “God includes the devil?” Is enlightenment about having all questions being answered in a single moment?

Anyway, so a few days after BDO, I saw Silverchair at Festival Hall with Michael and found myself amongst masses of screaming girls. I think that gig was an overflow gig for the Palace show as a result of high demand and is unlisted. Otherwise I went to the one in December.

Anyway, it is worth noting in Victoria that: “It is an offence for a licensee or permittee to supply liquor to a person in a state of intoxication. It is also an offence to permit drunken or disorderly persons to be on the licensed premises, or on any other premises where we have authorised licensees to serve liquor.” source

And in that respect, in 1997 during uni Orientation Week, one night after leaving Prince Alfred Carlton adjacent to Melbourne Uni, I was told something like “come back to see us during the day” as I stepped through the door on the way out. I asked why and the bouncer just said to come back. And the exact same thing happened again in March 2019 for reasons unknown to me – I wasn’t even drinking alcohol then, but I didn’t ask the bouncer why.

In ’97, I wore a pair of blue, velvety Diesel pants (drum pic below) and red, suede Vans skate shoes a lot back then – so was it for a photo shoot? The demand really irked me after a good night out and I never went to the venue properly ever again, until 2019 for moment of déjà vu. I was phasing out drinking as well in early 1997, another reason I never returned except for a gig in October.

The band was named after the book The Celestine Prophecy from 1993 but I never got far into it. Some great quotes can be found here. We even had a song called Celestine.

Interestingly, there were a bunch of Sting CDs in the pile above and we covered one of his tracks in the gig.

I also saw Sting play in November, 2000 with Manu Katche on drums.

I did read Siddhartha and saw the film at the Trak (underneath Silvers.) I also read CwG Book 1 and ended up reading most, if not all in the series.  I also liked the Osho website and could download his talks.

I also read a Sivananda book brought back from India for me that covered Kundalini much to my interest.

“If Kundalini is awakened before he attains purity by Asanas, Bandhas, Mudras and Pranayama, he will come across the temptations of the other planes, he will have no strength of will to resist these temptations and will have a hopeless downfall. It will be very difficult for him to climb up again to the original height which he climbed in the ladder of Yoga. Therefore the aspirant should try to purify himself first. If perfect purity is attained through Japa, Kirtan and constant selfless service, Kundalini will awaken by itself and move towards the Sahasrara at the crown of the head to meet Her Lord Siva, the trident-bearer of Mount Kailas, the store-house of wisdom, bliss and peace.” – src

Notice he implied people should strive for purity rather than to awaken Kundalini. Interestingly, I ended up handing many of my books to Toby, including that one, and we recorded music as well in 2003. Toby put me onto the incredible The Wisdom of Ramala which mentions purity 26 times.

Kundalini in 2024 has 40K subscribers (June, 2024) on Reddit and it doesn’t interest me at all, but there’s interesting stuff on Marginalia.

I suspect Kundalini-Shakti is as important today as it has ever been because it is more intelligent that any AI because it knows the future due to its incredible presence. In 2001, there was an issue of What is Enlightenment? called Can Enlightenment Save the World?

All great content, including White’s description of Homo Noeticus – the next stage in human evolution. Says White above: “Enlightenment is the only thing which can save the world. The only thing.” And that “Homo noeticus is the term I use to designate what I see as a higher form of humanity emerging on the planet now, characterized not by genetic changes but by noetic changes.” So researching these topics kicked into high gear for me in 2001, my last year at university that began in 1997. It was my unofficial degree I suppose, and how can you sell someone the future – it’s already been bought!?

Another channelled take on Kundalini alongside Datre (book) was St Germain from 1999 and I remember printing the whole amazing interview out and reading it in a park.

“The thing is that everybody is different, in terms of the clarity of that moving through the body. Some people do kundalini in a clear way, some people don’t, then it comes right up, causing the mind to shift – burns out the mind, in some people’s cases – but when it is balanced, it just is an addendum to your life, it just adds in. It doesn’t really awaken, it opens your capacity to function with your spirit through your body rather than through your mind and through your imagination. If you’ll notice, people who really stand in their knowing and have a truth mechanism in there, it’s because they experience it in some fashion in their body, not in their mind. So energy when it moves in the body is identified as Shakti, as kundalini, everyplace has a different name.” – src

Incidentally, at the time I remember the artist formerly known as Terence Trent D’Arby becoming Sananda Maitreya – I wondered if he was channelling himself.

So Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras date back almost two thousand years ago and address the same topic of preparing for, and enabling the dissolution of the microcosm. And today there is a lot of Kundalini information and people on Quora, although I prefer to avoid using that Sanskrit word for something that is so universal and undefinable – it also opens someone up to being labelled, condemned or even idolized . . . Shakti is at least more specific.

For the doubters, just because someone doesn’t understand something or can’t access it (often due to fear or pain,) doesn’t mean it’s not true. Although one could say: “you don’t awaken your Kundalini, it awakens you, and until then, forget about it.” And interestingly, in 2022, an English translation of Abraham Abulafia’s Light of the Intellect from 1285 appeared on Patreon.

Anyway, from 1997 onward I walked passed PAs everyday for years, being at the end of Bouverie Street and on the way to the main Parkville campus. I saw groups of people – uni students – ejected from that premises at certain times to fill up the footpath outside. Perhaps selections are made via CCTV from a back office – that bizarre scenario is not to be ruled out. Like many others, I think I was ejected back in 1997 but can’t fully recall what happened. Maybe I wasn’t. Why do they even stay open during O-Week? You keep drinking, and when you’re spotted (apparently) inebriated, you’re thrown out, just as the the law states. But why are you asked to return the following day? Nice interior, though.

Continuing, as with PAs, I used to spend much time looking at the Arcadia hotel in my prior school years waiting for the tram ride home and readying myself for a tertiary education somewhere and a trip into the “real world.”

A Tribute to David

– part 4 of 5: Beyond Blacklists: EXPOSURE!

… and the ones that went …
… and the ones that were “snooped and spooked” !

After 2014, a number of people disappeared in Israel soon after I had met them and even after I had known them for months or years. Not everyone of course, but a few.

There were also other oddities I witnessed in terms of abandoned Instagram accounts, voice-muted telephone calls and blackholed emails right up until last year.

How relevant these oddities were/are to me is yet to be fully determined but can still be examined.

I did read once that Mao Zedong didn’t want to outright murder his opponents as that would be difficult, invite too much suspicion and create backlash. Instead he’d rather keep them childless if possible and have them die sick, broke and alone. This would also instill fear into his enemies and would-be enemies.

This Dark Retribution strategy comes into play I believe with regards to the 3 blog posts that I posted in late 2006 concerning Gil Dibner, Izhar Shay and Yossi Hasson.

Mr Hasson even thanked me for my post at the time via SMS. Yet other people it seemed thought differently. I was put in contact with Mr Hasson (although I never met him in person) by the Jewish Agency for the purpose of an internship with a VC firm.

Prior to 2014, I had already witnessed a Suppressive Operative work against another person at an event, and also Gil Dibner personally acted against me at another event and Shay at another one. Both these people have already been discussed on this blog providing background and validity to this prior statement.

Note: I don’t believe these two people know anything about the people listed below (or in Part 5) as I think there was a much larger apparatus at work, although I might be wrong. By this, at the TheMarker Com.Vention 2011 event, I did see a group of uniformed IDF officers sitting in a row on chairs (maybe 5). They were very silent and just watching people – were they there checking up on specific people or was it for a display of soft power? At this event I spoke to Michael Vassar and Sven Hoffman who was to work on Bopgig.

Mr Dibner and Mr Shay were both there, as was Mr Shochat. When Mr Dibner (alongside Daniel Cohen) saw me, he looked to go pale and then pretended I didn’t exist – that was the vibe I got. Mr Shay did not see me. I ended up meeting one of the iPost reps (Nathalie, far left).

Lastly, in 2008 an IDF officer did at one point come to my door for reasons not yet known to me.

1 – David Krasninski

This chap David K was 18 when I first saw him walking around the streets of Jerusalem. He was a very social person with happy disposition. He looked like Shaun White and that’s initially why I approached him and took the photos below in March 2014.

Around the last time I saw David was at Cafe Birman Jazz Bar in August 2014.

Some weeks later, I saw him walking alone at night in the location below (around the same location to where the top photo was taken) and when he looked at me from across the street he scampered off into the night like air sirens were wailing. His head dropped and he was looking to take cover.

At around this time he deactivated, or deleted his Facebook. Unusually, the short Conversation Archive which I had with David on FB was fully missing. It was in Hebrew and he barely spoke a word of English. I never saw him around the streets of Jerusalem again (or on social media.) I left for Atlit in 2018.

Maybe David vanished to do his army service and I did see him in an army uniform at one point. Regardless, let’s hope he’s doing well somewhere.

And interestingly, when I left for Atlit, Amiad “Style” Rikdan then disappeared off Facebook who I had known for many years at Chess Square (שחמט), although I’m sure he’s happily B-boying somewhere if I look for long enough.


A few months earlier a shop assistant at the Teva wholefoods store disappeared.

I used to speak to her on a weekly basis for around 2 years at least. One day she went. No warning. Nothing. She had black curly hair and liked cats. Caucasian, skinny, around 40, spoke Russian/English/Hebrew and was studying kinesiology. I kept returning to the store for weeks but she never returned. She might be back there now. But I wouldn’t know.

Below are two photos that when posted to FB resulted in the temporary deactivation of the tagged person’s account – maybe 1-2 years deactivated.

With Sephra Kinini from the USA, (far left, above) her FB was deactivated within a few seconds to 1 minute of me messaging her (after tagging her 10 minutes earlier.) Or FB deactivated it against my IP, or there was something else going on.

 

Admittedly, a somewhat unnecessary message to send… almost as silly as what happened as a result – at 5:46am.

Also, my FB news and updates feed was drastically censored for many years, and still is to a large degree it seems (as of 8 Feb 22).

  • I used to like Amblin (and many others) but never got any of their updates.
  • I only saw a few days worth of prior updates from a small subset of friends before an error occurred.
  • It seemed Versace, Cara Delevingne and Shaun White were following me but they didn’t appear as followers.

Some type of maximized shadow ban? Is there a way to reset the incoming filter? Where’s the level playing field? Super odd stuff that should be seen as feature requests.

Continuing, with Solveig – I think that took a few days and had nothing to do with me. But with Sephra… that was really odd. Also, Sephra’s public FB has been stripped bare at this point. Her blog mymedicaljourneyholyland.blogspot.com has even been removed. Who knows.. maybe she’s on IG. I only spoke to her for about 45 seconds. Perhaps it was because both of these people were in the process of getting married.

There was also Tuvyah Ifrahe who one day out of the blue unfriended me and avoided me in the street.

I just wonder if he was “snooped and spooked.” He would of otherwise likely become a good friend.

A few others who I took photos with disappeared and I’d typically put it down to the randomness of the meetings in a busy area, but in view of my overall experience, I’ll never fully know.

Once in Atlit, I walked to Idan Lavi‘s place after answering an AirBnB ad.

Another odd thing that happened while I was there was that I received a voice message on my phone in Hebrew referring to Nissan and Renault – two cars that were registered to me in the past in Australia well over 10 years prior. The caller was in a phone center and was smirking. What was up with that? Then, I emailed Yoha about jamming again but he didn’t reply – later he said he never got those emails.

Back in Australia, passport related emails never came through. I setup a new free account and then got them. Probably a technical glitch. Then I called Idan about getting my bond back and on both occasions he didn’t hear me speak, he kept saying “Hello.” I emailed twice and he didn’t reply. It was only when I contacted him through Paypal message center that he replied. At one point I started searching for his AirBnB listing on my Israeli-purchased PC, at which point it was delisted soon after. It was like someone was spying on my screen, and screen-spying is an idea brought into Ormus King 5. Highly likely the delisting was a coincidence, but who knows. Regardless, it’s an awesome space to live in – close to the beach too and Idan is a great host. He even emailed me within a few days of posting the apartment pic higher above asking if I wanted to rent it again.

I emailed another friend twice and he didn’t reply. When I later saw him at a school function (reunion) a few months later, he said he never got those emails and I saw him run a search on them.

I replied to another Australian friend twice… no reply. I am interested to find out what happened there – well actually those emails also never arrived:

Also, another chap who I spoke to on the phone in May 2020 in Mount Buller about buying a sauna completely ceased all new Instagram and FB posts after that friendly conversation. Was he worried about instigating competition or was it something else?

Time to take a cold dip?

At around the same time while I was at Mount Buller, another Australian person ceased one of her IG accounts after I emailed her about an adventure sauna.

Lost at sea? Her FB account is still updated.

So I ended up purchasing a mobile sauna through an alternative brand, Morzh – I had no choice.

Furthermore, prior to this, in Israel, someone (Yulianna Hoffman) also completely ceased all Instagram posts in November 2017 (and privatized her account) after a single inane comment “OMG, it’s Paris Jackson!” I made on one of her FB photos comparing her look to Paris Jackson.

I had never attempted to make contact with her before or after that comment and found her on that day through casual surfing. Like the sauna guy, maybe it had nothing to do with me… or did it? Perhaps it’s all a bit far-fetched?! Should I even worry about it?

… there’s no such thing as an accident!

There’s also lot of weirdness that I have overlooked in the tech scene prior to 2011 including job rejections without reason or follow-up.

In late 2013 a fellow asked me for my surname and I spelled it to him. It was around a campfire and some time later he was looking at me and laughing hysterically. I stopped speaking to him at that point.

The person was either Leon (above) or the soldier… maybe both. My memory is not crystal clear with this incident but I do remember spelling out my name and seeing someone laugh hysterically. What happened? Was it a campfire gag or something else?

Now that’s odd… or is it? 🙂

Nothing strange about an unfollow. But I hadn’t tweeted for years and wrote a single tweet and also put a link to that twitter account in the blog’s sidebar. It was unfollowed within 24 hours. Did he know about this unfollow? I should have some screenshots regarding this somewhere. I think Assaf was the only Israeli tech guy to follow @adrianwaj. And if I ever to go to one if his talks, I’ll have to ask him about it….

– note: I was using Windows 10 on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 15R 5520 | Tag: 6N0PDS1) before I switched to Linux in 2017. Prior to this, I noticed at one point that my upload usage was extremely high even when inactive and malware-cleaned. I upgraded Windows and still the same problem.

I started to wonder about involuntary screen-sharing (ie someone spying on me.) Then, a similar thing happened with my new Asus Linux PC but the uploading phenomenon was less severe – bursting every 30-45 secs and not constant. I even changed the flavour of Linux a few times to no avail. In Israel, when I purchased this PC from Ivory (and the Dell laptop before), I attached my name to the order before the hardware was supplied. Was something baked-in prior to delivery at a hardware level, or was something latent in the hardware enabled (or altered) due to my (affected?) name? At a yeshiva in 2006, someone told me about rabbis physically sitting behind students in the library to make sure they browsed nothing banned. So why not do something like this remotely and in secret?

I now buy my PCs second-hand and can check my idle upload rates – so far no problem. Or am I just being paranoid? How can you opt-out of something you don’t even know about?

While I know that I am right about the strange uploading, I may be wrong about the spying aspect. Even so, I did include the concept in Ormus King 7:

“Humans are controlled and dominated from a far-off planet for their eventual replacement by a reptilian alien cult that hijack Earth’s technology systems” [1] because “a large set of cyborgs on Earth are pre-installed with ‘trojan chips‘ and they can control any human (including threats to themselves) in a variety of ways using humans’ scalar fingerprints as coupled with the off-planet reptilians backing them.” [2]

Ormus King 3 also has Adrian Boron’s sight and hearing shared with his foes after they forcibly inject him with black goo. This was written in mid-2017 on my all-black Linux PC as it mysteriously pulse-uploaded every minute or so. The irony.

In my view, truly evil people enjoy hurting others and seek out opportunities to do so. It’s schadenfreude on steroids.

Evil people can reside and work anywhere – but ideally in positions of power over their targets so they can sustain it over time. They may even wrap themselves in flags, emblems and surround themselves with good people who are kept in the dark of their real intentions. Their empathy is cold and in order to feel, they need to sense pain.

But it doesn’t have to involve murder – as long as there’s pain at some level. That’s the goal of the perpetrator.

1) Hollywood

I even delve into this topic in Ormus King 4 where an alien cult on another planet kills off entire planets in order to extend their own lifespan so that life-force is siphoned from the ritualized slaughter by the perpetrators.

Regarding my own experiences, in my comparison document, Ormus King Octology vs Disney Star Wars I state:

“The Rise of Skywalker seems to be a half-baked amalgamation of “Star Wars: Impossible Redemption” + OK4 + OK6 + OK9 with additional  layers to enable it to fit into the new Star Wars universe.”

However, at the time of writing that document, I had trouble concluding it, but if Kamran Pasha is to be believed, I now feel I am in a better position to, and it relates to the Hollywood culture of humiliating and hurting talented creatives by the untalented families or insiders that reside within that scene – and so they could be the perpetrators to which I speak of.

"Hollywood is very much a club - it's a mafia and it resists any efforts for you to come in - especially if you aren't part of the multi-generational, multi-family mafia that has existed for a century in this town. If you come in as an entrepreneur they resist you. Same thing happened with George Lucas... he outsmarted the mafia... and they don't like that. Pasha in a later video explains how Disney Star Wars should’ve been about “passing the torch to Ray” but instead it was “screw these old white men” because “Ms Kennedy had her own agendas.”

To me it was the level of subversion to the prior 6 films which was very disturbing.

Interestingly, a person who built sets for Hollywood productions recently told me it’s possible to break into the Hollywood scene by doing the right drugs with the right people. He also thoroughly disliked the attitudes of many people in the scene and said so many are utterly vain and ruthless.

Continuing with Pasha, if he is correct, then the Star Wars sequel trilogy (7,8,9) was ultimately about:

  • hurting George Lucas by ignoring his story ideas and putting him through a humiliation ritual instead.
  • hurting the fanbase whereby (according to my comparison document) the sequel trilogy “wrecked the hero-archetype and journey and this is its main social failure and cause for social upheaval” and pushing some type of SJW ideas instead.
  • hurting me by taking and vandalizing many good ideas from my ennealogy.

As such, it really was an act of Satanic Ritual Abuse – or at least a good attempt at it. So the audience thought they were going in to be entertained, but the perpetrators were the ones being entertained. This is an extreme and unusual, yet I feel valid point-of-view, although isn’t that what Hollywood is about: normalizing the extreme?!? A movie’s overall intentions can be perceived very differently by the audience to the ones who had made it.

With regards to my own witnessing of evil directed against me, I have written about some experiences in A Brutish Affliction: Part 1 (Australia).

2) Hillel Square

At the same time in Israel, I also saw some disturbing things, for example in Launchpad Israel: The Aftermath – 2006 and Beyond I mentioned street gangs “starting on me” while playing drums. I also referred to a fellow at a tech event who was being pursued by an operative who was purposely and very visibly suppressing his social network.

Adding to this, I was sitting once at an outdoor square (on Hillel street – no actual pics of incident) at night in Jerusalem, maybe 2011 and I walked up to, and sat with a group of Arabs, and I am almost certain this one chap in the group was a Palestinian – or pretending to be one.

 

We were completely isolated from everyone around us even though the square was actually very busy. He asked “Do you support the Palestinians?” in an aggressive manner. I hesitated and said “maybe.” He asked again and I repeated the answer. His friends were surprised yet quietly amused by it, but he wasn’t. I quickly left and hid across the road (blue.)

Then, I looked across at the square and saw him appear, looking up and down the street, presumably ready to chase me down (red) – I had embarrassed him and he got triggered. Imagine if I would’ve said ‘no’ instead of ‘maybe’ !?! And if I said ‘yes’ that could’ve meant providing him with some type of token of my Dhimmitude afterward.

Furthermore, at another time in the square, a young guy (pictured below) told me a story of how someone close to him had had their entire life savings (or a large part of it) confiscated in Israel due to either a personality conflict, or as a result of racism – I am not sure of the precise details. It might have been after immigration, and it greatly affected his family.

Lastly, while not directly in Hillel Square, I did see what appeared to be the late Tony “Tuvyah” Rose wandering around Ben Yehuda street alone on Shabbat in ~2013.  I am not entirely sure if it was him: it was a thought at the time – it did look strange. Anyhow, I first met him in Tsfat in 2005 and he ended up in the same hostel as me in Jerusalem in early 2007 (Jerusalem Hostel) – each time with his kids. He was later murdered in Tsfat in April 2014 by Avraham Levi Yosef Blau.

I remember Tuvyah to be an insightful and caring fellow (Cancerian) who went through a difficult marriage breakup. I got along very well with him. His perpetrator was likely a genuinely violent and mentally disturbed person, who Tony probably had kept out of the shule once (I’d seen him do this before at the Shalom Rav shule with someone else,) and who returned later to murder him. Tony might have even been a hero – saving someone else in the process. On the other hand, perhaps Tony knew of this person prowling the streets of Tsfat and confronted him because the police had not done so up until that point – then later he was murdered by him, yet in the process Tony had this danger removed from Tsfat but in the most tragic way.

3) Israel Tech

Yet another highly significant incident came on 14 February 2009 when at a tech workshop (Eurekamp), a person – we had met before and I had blogged about this VC meeting about 1.5 years earlier on my Launchpad Israel site as one of its first posts – appeared at this event alongside a soon-to-be employee of his VC firm – Eden Shochat, who was then an entrepreneur and who I had encountered before and after this event at other tech events. This was to my surprise as the person in question was not on the user-generated (wiki) attendees list and was not wearing an assigned nametag.

What happened to Yuri? What is it about ambition that leads people astray?

Throughout the time of kings and queens people struggled to climb the social ladder, not caring who they hurt in the climb to gain power. The power struggle that remained prominent throughout the ages is the underlying cause of most tragic events in Hamlet.

So, the person could be called X. Like the Palestinian mentioned above, I seemingly had also triggered him somehow. He was also seemingly behaving like the suppressive-operative previously mentioned.

As a result, during the course of the event, a number of strange occurrences occurred:

  1. a CTO (Yaniv Golan) who I had provided with good feedback regarding how to improve his website (Yedda) suddenly shook his finger at me – this was the first person I saw while walking up to the venue as I waited to cross at some traffic lights. He was close to X. I was expecting the opposite greeting but he was silent.
  2. when I first saw X inside, I sensed extremely angry vibes from this person, very similar to those of the man at the beach in Noosa mentioned in Brutish Affliction who could easily have been a killer.
  3. I conversed with Uri Levanon normally while he sat on a couch, yet later in the day he looked very spooked when I came up to speak to him a second time and didn’t want to speak at all. In 2007 I was looking to find an investor so he could license Timbaland’s Shock Value album via his firm Craze Digital.
  4. prior to this, X had a bunch of people standing around him – I suspect he was spying on me during the event to note who I was speaking to, and then gathered them all up at that point to scare them and defame me. This sounds paranoid – but I still hold it to be a viable inference when dealing with someone else behaving in a paranoid fashion.
  5. A 2nd talk of mine was then prematurely cancelled without any prior discussion with me: “Sleeping for Success” which involved power-napping, dreams and maximizing mental energy after that gathering.
  6. X came into the room when I was about to give a talk to advertise and promote their own talk that was to be given at roughly the same time.
  7. At the beginning of a workshop nearing the end of the day, X came into the room and approached a series of people and then appeared to look and refer to me. None of the people approached appeared to engage in conversation with X. When it was my turn to speak and introduce myself, and I spoke in English, X looked very disappointed, as though one of his sports teams (if he has any) missed a scoring shot. X didn’t remain in that workshop.
  8. the entire time, from what I could concur, X didn’t belong at this invite-only event (note absence from the attendees list above – although that list is not the official one,) I doubt paid the entry fee, and might have even done all this unbeknownst to the event organizer.
  9. X’s employer, Genesis Partners may have sponsored the event according to my notes and the GP logo can definitely be seen on the 2010 page. In 2009 this About page shows “Our sponsors: IBM, Bank Hapoalim, rest is TBA.” Perhaps GP became a secondary sponsor?
  10. X gave a talk, but this person’s name is not on the CortexStorming page (or any other page that I have been able to find so far on this site) whereas mine is, and my name is also on AppendixStorming for “Sleeping for Success” (which was cancelled – see #5 above.) Why?

    This photo corresponds to #6 where X was asking people to attend his talk in another room, just prior to me giving my CortexStorming talk. I took a similar photo as seen below. I don’t get how he could give another CortexStorming talk (or any talk) simultaneously in another room. What was going on? What was the intention? Note the lack of headband or name tag. Was he an impostor? As far as I’m concerned he was and I welcome his comment. This is because I don’t think he was ever invited to Eurekamp 2009, and if he was (was he?), he behaved partly in a manner in which he was not in terms of the norms of entry, and to me (and others) he behaved as though I was not invited and didn’t belong there. But did I even belong in Israel and to what extent? People should know about this – they should know about the dire pecking order in that country (or rather State). How right I am remains to be fully determined:

    Show me the enemy and I’ll show you a hero!!!

    Continuing, Uri Levanon and Erez Perelmuter are shown on the CortexStorming page (above right) – two people I clearly remember speaking to and later saw at the Town Hall Meeting. I was wearing my headpiece.

So what happened that day? For X it was a Normal Day, but for me (and others) it was the witnessing of a True Perp – whether people liked (or knew) it or not.

Yet on the other hand, it may not have been a normal day for X, whose name is Gil Dibner – who I have nothing personally against, and never did. This is because like his target that day, myself (from my aforementioned observations,) perhaps we had both been drawn into what I now come to know as the Shadow Justice System.

It took 3 attempts to snap Mr Dibner and he didn’t land in that frame by accident.

It was a very disturbing day of what appeared to me as covert social violence, unfortunately. I also wanted to get Mr Vardi in the frame and show the contrast.

However, I did not go out of my way to find and photograph him – it was taken from where I was already sitting and this principle has underpinned all my photos – especially of people in public places – the images come to me first where I already am, and I take my camera out second.

For example, Orli Yakuel at least was on the user-generated guest list (see above) and wore a headpiece before removing it along with her nametag. I never saw Mr Dibner wear these ever, even if he does supposedly wear his heart on his sleeve. ]

Continuing, shadow because sin and retribution are determined without due process, cloaked, and in contrast to the law of the land. Also, as mentioned in Launchpad Israel: The Aftermath – 2006 and Beyond I have vast notes to backup my claim: that of dark retribution, and it might well extend from Israel into Australia and that is the main reason for this Eurekamp incident being recorded: this history could well have relevance to today. And as such, this makes that day in 2009 pertinent to much more than just myself.

The entire international, psychological (and even historical) context from which Mr Dibner behaved in relation to me is still yet to be fully explored. One thing to take note from Pharrell Williams (interview 2020) is that:

"People will not realize they are being just as nasty as the people who they feel like are perpetrating. You can end up stooping down just as low. The point is to help you realize you're essentially doing the same thing." ~2:14
"I am an Aries so I am a fighter for what I really, really, really believe in.... but man, No is so good and so powerful. There's so much power and beauty in the word No."  ~12:14

Like Williams, Mr Dibner is also an Aries.

So now in 2021, am I supposed to be still concerned about what happened on that day in 2009? What was the fight about to begin with? Can’t we all just be Libras?

Conclusion

Perhaps fighting tyranny today is about avoiding situations whereby pain can be inflicted at will by the perpetrators from which I speak about. Should punishment fit the crime or crime fit the punishment? And finally, on the road to becoming the wisest, richest or most popular, one must remember that there is “Nothing but Him”…”Ein Od Milvado” !

Launchpad Israel: The Aftermath – 2006 and Beyond

– part 1 of 5: Beyond Blacklists: EXPOSURE!

In Israel, I believe or rather know that I was “downranked” within that society in late 2006 via extensive personal observation. This continued for many years. It is a conscious effort to neutralize someone’s influence in society… and quite possibly much, much worse within an “orange-ray emotional blockage” context.

This was done utterly unfairly, I feel, and corresponding to my experience street-drumming where gangs could “start on me,” I think it was a way to assert dominance. This “downranking” was done from the top-down and of course unbeknownst to me. The judge, jury and executioner never knew me, or barely, with lies probably making up for solid information – if they even had any.

It’s also worth noting that:

“Absent a basic document protecting human rights (Israel has no written Constitution), the Supreme Court is considered by many as the last bastion protecting the civil rights of citizens (and non-citizens, including Palestinians) against government actions and laws.” – src, 2023

The country is in the Middle East after all. So the key to assert power over someone is to keep them blindsided of hostile intent so they can’t bring it to court. And those courts are in the process of being weakened anyway.

The place can easily resort to Jew-on-Jew thug life based on social and economic violence. I have even said elsewhere:

“I have a hypothesis that the only character trait that Israelis have that extends beyond their toughness is their idiocy.”

So shouldn’t those protesters be yearning for a bill-of-rights? Wouldn’t that garner more positive international attention? How does a brute un-brute him/herself? The God of the Torah can be very vicious too, unless someone is reaching deeply into the Kabbalah. Those secular protesters probably have a lot of self-righteous indignation and they’ll lose that fight. It could be a good time to start a new political party – The Judges Party, People First or Reversal.

Regardless, I suspect this downranking came after a series of 3 blog posts (from late 2006) I wrote about interactions with VCs that I had had at the time. They weren’t critical blogposts I feel, more “matter-of-fact here’s how my experience went that day.” The posts might’ve been something like you’d find on thefunded.com (launched early 2007) – but in reality much less innocuous.

I don’t even think they were critical at all – but people can believe what they want to believe. The main, or rather only reason the posts went up was to create new content and to write something from a boots-on-the-ground, fresh perspective. The Launchpad Israel (LPI) blog was unpopulated at the time. If I visited or spoke to a VC about my startup, why not write about it?

Moreover, the blog posts came in context with the work I had already started in Melbourne in 2003, for which I had even previously met a VC firm there – Momentum VC. I met 3 individuals at that firm at the time, with the main contact being Tim Ingram. I also met Ron Finkel very briefly and also saw Doron Ben-Meir who many years prior was my tennis coach.

And I retained this vision into my Israeli VC meetings a few years later, and below are screenshots of the VC-specific vision I was working toward in 2003: Awarenex.

Phase 1: Awarenex is a venture capital brokerage firm utilising the Web to match opportunities with investors. Essentially, AwareNex aggregates startup investment opportunities and matches each one to its network of angel investors. Startups companies pay AwareNex a commision for each investment made by any angel in its network. 

Phase 2: Awarenex creates and manages a venture capital fund that pools its investors' money over the web from a cartel consisting of high net-worth individuals who are clients of Awarenex's alliance partner banks. The fund partners with top-tier, venture capital firms to co-invest in their syndicate deals.

Part of the problem in Melbourne was that the VC scene was practically non-existent, perhaps Awarenex could’ve changed that. Also, perhaps it was a mistake to mention Awarenex in Israel with VCs as that would invoke rivalry – I was meant to be an entrepreneur and not coming in from a financier’s perspective. Often I wasn’t sure if I should be pitching GrooveTip, Awarenex, LPI or simply for a job. I pitched both GrooveTip and Awarenex to Tim Ingram and his suggestion for Awarenex was to start with a newsletter and with GrooveTip to first find revenues.

Launpad Israel wasn’t Awarenex, but it was aimed at adopting this vision specifically for the Israeli VC scene after funding and customized software development. LPI had multiple functions with a blog being only one. It was also meant to become a database of companies, people and events.

Another site, StartupIsrael.com started very soon after LPI launched. However, according to this post (and shown below), StartupIsrael launched first – in November 2006 – but I dispute that. LPI launched in October as already mentioned here and shown below [see post]. I also don’t consider it a competitor.

TechAviv, a still-running startup community which I joined, even began during LPI’s operation.

I listed one angel investor on LPI who was based in Monterey, California and he said he received multiple leads after being on it. I think he made two investments because of his listing, I am not sure. My concern was that after seeing MySpace take-off, I realized I missed that opportunity because GrooveTip used off-the-shelf software and really needed proper custom development to integrate its components – which I was looking to do anyway, but I wasn’t a hardcore programmer.

Continuing on, I even removed the most controversial post – the one about Mr Dibner (with its one sentence about being rejected)  after I was queried on the post by Jon Aizen (JA) who later said in an email “The issue was dropped when you removed the post.” However, it turns out it wasn’t the case. Removing the post and even taking down the blog in hindsight was really the mistake. It was never about the post… I think it was about me.

So once I took my LPI blog and twitter down, I was much more open to slander and misinformation. And even if this is an unjustifiably paranoid statement (I don’t think it is,) it’s still true regardless, whereby if  one removes their online presence, and others don’t like your presence as a whole, then alternative narratives can more easily arise without proper information to counter those narratives – especially if one doesn’t know about what’s happening.

After this, JA and his CEO Eran Shir uninvited me (and someone else) to his startup’s (Dapper) NYE party and I had been providing solid feedback to them up until that point. Perhaps JA was even interested in having me as an early employee. Over email, JA asked me for an apology for Mr Dibner, but instead I just removed the post about him (and the other 2 VCs) about 4 days later. I didn’t apologize on that day because I didn’t believe I did any harm to Mr Dibner, nor did I intend harm. And whatever I apparently did to him (ie nothing,) over 15 years later it has never stopped him from launching 2 VC funds.

To this day, I have never met JA in person, or even spoken to him verbally and lost contact soon after. I know nothing about who was involved in this “request for apology” and the merit or consequences that it entailed. I also felt it was strange to have JA used as a messenger boy for victim consciousness. I didn’t even know what JA looked like… he had no online profile picture. Yet more importantly I don’t think I did either (or videos of myself,) and did that make me somehow less credible as a person and rather more as a potential target-for-life?

Straight from victim to villain-by-proxy!

Must one be in the corridors-of-power to have any power?

Being uninvited to Dapper’s NYE party was the watershed moment for me. My blog even received around 80 visitors in the space of a few minutes while the VC posts were up – Israeli visitors. The posts had caught the attention of people – negative attention I suspect.

And when I finally left Israel in late November 2018 with my belongings, I received many visitors in a very short period of time at the beginning of the month.

Those photos were posted on the 5th of November and taken at the Dizengoff center. The influx of visitors probably had nothing to do with me leaving. Or was it because the Ormus King was escaping with his life?… nahh.

Continuing, Dapper was acquired by Yahoo in 2010. And as with Yedda and Moshtix that were also acquired in those years, with all 3 I had been providing solid feedback and help to those firms in their startup period only to be eventually ignored – or worse. But if nothing’s in writing, that’s part of business I suppose… to a certain extent.

Interestingly, my twitter account @bitrific (since renamed @adrianboron1) I feel was instrumental in promoting Bitcoin in its earlier years, with content drawn from Hacker News.

At the same time, a couple of years earlier in 2009 I had setup some very pro-Israeli (and US) unofficial twitter feeds including the all important debkafile and a number of others including israelnatnews,  israelnatbriefs, israelnatopin, investisrael, lpijobs, globesbiz, stratforintel, globesec and amthinker. I still run these to this day.

I was in contact with the editor at American Thinker for the Iranian essay, but for some reason it was never published there after some emails. Perhaps my heart was in the right place, but my vision was not. Maybe I was “checked out” beforehand. Today, in 2021, with barely any real changes to each of these wars, I am more of the view that they are staged for political gain or armament sales – aren’t many wars?

Also, while I was developing Cleanzap.com in 2007/08 as a business directory for the CleanTech space to run alongside its own blog, Crunchbase was also launched as a directory to run alongside the Techcrunch blog, with both acquired in 2010.

CleanZap started as the next iteration of LPI to be a database alongside its blog – just as Crunchbase became to Techcrunch.

Also, in March 2009 I built and launched Twitya.com – a twitter browser and client.


Twitya was a “Better Twitter than Twitter” for me to read news as I disliked the “river of feeds” on Twitter home. I think amongst other things spammers used it to discover meaningful interactions of any given user.

I may well have been first to invent the “show more” drop-down list.. soon after used by YT for their video comment sections. I should’ve patented it. This evolved into Infinite Scroll. Twitya also used a client-side 3-pane floating interface Web 2.0-style. Perhaps I should’ve patented that too. I strongly suspect this was emulated in September 2010 by Twitter itself with its client-side driven floating 2-pane floating interface:

In view of all this copying, I am not surprised Disney used Ormus King as a starting point for The Rise of Skywalker which I elaborate upon here. That film had a box office of $1 Billion, and I suppose it could’ve been much worse without its emulated vision.

Interestingly, I don’t think I was the only one that experienced such a “downranking” thing. It must be part of Israeli life. At a tech conference, a fellow sitting next to me pointed out another person literally following him around and talking – ie spooking – everyone he spoke to almost immediately afterward to turn them off him. He described some sort of bizarre situation that led him to that one, and I quizzed him, “but why don’t you confront him on it?” and he said “then there’d really be trouble.”

During another situation, at Entrepreneur Perspective as a VC (7 October 2010,) the speaker (Eden Shochat) asked if there was anyone that preferred English, and I raised my hand, yet Mr Shochat  still ran his talk in Hebrew. The slides were in English. There was another person that only spoke English at the front of the room. Someone (from Intentia.co.il) gave me a lift home and said it was really odd.

My blog (Launchpad Israel) was removed from the blogrolls of Daniel Cohen (Dec 2008 -> Jan 2009) and Roi Carthy (Feb 2009 -> July 2009.) But by that time, my blog wasn’t in the same form as it was when originally launched.

By mid-2007 I was back in Melbourne living with my mum (after ~1.5 years in Israel) and helping Jeremy Rich and his solar startup with SugarCRM customization. We also went to Mount Buller together.

Rich’s firm (Energy Matters) was eventually acquired in 2014.

Interestingly, during this period I also worked for a small Israel/Europe VC firm for 3 days but the spreadsheet work wasn’t at all creative. I covered the firm’s launch on LPI and this led me to the job – which I tried so hard to like – but at least I did it though. By the end of the year I had started a new site, “Adrian Wajsbrem Blog” that covered similar topics to LPI but with more music and hobbies.

During this period in Melbourne I was always thinking about returning to Israel. I started reading Torah everyday. I also held Skype conversations (one recorded) with a couple of Israeli entrepreneurs including Nir Kouris (eCampIsrael) who I later met in Tel Aviv with his co-founder, and the other with Dudu Mimran for his blog-search site (strategicboard.com.)

I eventually returned to Israel in early 2008 after going through Canada for further Heartcarve research, which continued at Mount Buller in 2007 and started in 2002.

Lastly, my trouble could well have been related to non-conformity whereby I documented here “Price Tag” activism sprayed on a wall near to where I played drums in 2016. In decrypting it years later, I realized I could have (and could still??) “DISAPPER.”

One reason this whole drama is pertinent today is related to the Trump de-platforming:

So with my 2006 “Israeli downranking” (or worse) – and I have vast notes* on what took place with those starting off as unpleasant memories – the problem is that a sort of war on liberty is declared with everyone who once knew me, or wants to know me. Someone is telling them: you can’t freely associate with that person, you might have to deplatform yourself or even go into hiding in order to elicit a response from the target that we can then ideally prosecute. That is, legal prosecution; or alternately execution. And even if you disagree with all this, do it anyway.

* The notes were first taken in Australia and based on memories from Israel and I jotted them down because I had trouble sleeping and not out of vindictiveness – just like this set of articles.

And so then that person becomes submissive (or faces the same fate.) So the question becomes, is all this top-down fear justified, is it healthy? Will a society like that even survive long-term? Why do it?

Perhaps it was because I was Australian and I could be used as a whipping boy (hurt me to hurt an untouchable other) or just as some type of scapegoat. For example, during the British mandate period, 1917-1948, members of the Jewish underground were imprisoned in Jerusalem in the Russian compound (below center and right, Ormus King 2) and then executed in Akko.

In this way, the Union Jack could (sometimes) be seen as a blessing to Israelis, but also a curse – due to the Balfour Declaration. However, if I were to resent something, it would be that Israel is referred to as a State (מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל‎) and not a Country, and this reinforces my view that Israel could be renamed to “The State of Israel-2B” – but to eventually be called “The Kingdom of Israel.” And to assist with this, I created an epic tale (documented here) that takes Israel in its current form to this idealized Kingdom which Jews around the world yearn for in their daily prayers, as enabled by a black messiah with his sidekick Adrian Boron.

So the reason for the downranking in 2006 could’ve been anything – or nothing. It was likely used for self-gain or sick sport. In the end, I started my startup BopGig in 2010 with American talent. “Too Bad” – and that’s the key phrase that no one seems to know how to use within this situation. And perhaps ironically, Indiana Jones actually saved me.

Israel Tech Scene 2006-2011

– part 3 of 5: Beyond Blacklists: EXPOSURE!

I attended a number of tech events in Israel – really I could have gone to Israel straight after uni, 4 years earlier… or not at all!

The first event I attended was the IVA Annual Conference 2006 – press release (now removed, April 17):

This was a great conference and Shimon Peres even accepted an award. Amazing days just before mass use of smartphones!

I had a few meetings in Herzliya Pituach after that event in order to raise finance for GrooveTip or whatever came next.

In June 2008 whilst living in Tel Aviv, I went to MashBash and in July 2008, I went to TWS2008.

In August 2008 I attended iDrink #9 at Beach Bar in Herzliya Pituach.

Then in September I made it to Mobile Monday.

So after building Twitya.com during this period, I attended the TechAviv Town Hall Meeting on 2 Sep ’09 having already begun work on Bopgig.

Then I submitted a business plan on 17 Nov ’09 into the TechAviv Angels group for judgement regarding Bopgig (then GigPop.)

It got into the top 10 out of ~45 entries, which was considered a very good result especially because there was no working product at that stage. I ended up sending that business plan to Michael Eisenberg, but he did not reply – that really raised a red flag with me. When I asked if I could send the business plan, he replied “Send Away!” I suppose I should’ve called as well. I had never actually met Mr Eisenberg before but we did exchange a few emails prior to this although I am not 100% sure – I am locked out of a gmail account.

As an aside, I met Ariel Finkelstein at his office for a job at Kampyle in ~2007 and was rejected – that rejection may have been related to all this.. or not. Pity, I could have really assisted him. I enjoyed meeting Jacob Ner-David around this time – nice guy – many vegans are! I also had a job interview at Kontera in ~2008 and was also rejected… but perhaps my rough sketches were a little too… rough, or was it something else!?! I got a call from a woman at Wix at one point when it was just starting for an employment opportunity but I waxed and waned. I was in contact with Ori Soen from MuseStorm, and if they had only raised a new funding round, I may have ended up working there.. or nipped in the bud.. or were they nipped in the bud?! I met with the late Alon Hochberg (SeeToo) and Vitaly Sirota (FoxyTunes) together but that was more for brainstorming. I remember sending suggestions to FoxyTunes back then and they were acquired by Yahoo in 2008. I also met David Kariv from Copenda for a Yogo ice-cream in Neve Tzedek and suggested to keep the site as simple as possible to emulate Plenty Of Fish. This led to a redesign. But the only date I was seeking was a date with destiny!

Continuing, I also spoke to Sequoia and they were interested, but ultimately said there was overlap. Randy Ditzler spoke to his partners about it after speaking to me. Did they call up the “Israelis” to see if I was “legit?”

I was irked when I saw that EventBrite obtained Sequoia as a new investor.

This announcement came prior to my conversation with Mr Ditzler because I remember mentioning Roelof Botha in the call. I am confident (but not certain as yet) that the announcement came after I submitted my business plan to the firm. I am presently attempting (unsusccesfully so far) to enter a Gmail account that should clarify this. Also, my startup was called Gigpop at the time and I switched to Bopgig because I liked the reference to Bebop or a “Bebop gig.” Today I’d use Gigpop with ‘pop’ referring to a father that’s into gigs or just “the father of gigs”.

Interestingly, before my discussion with Sequoia I listened to a long interview with Rupert Murdoch, and in my conversation I think I was channeling his style which left a good impression.

Platonix weren’t interested in working with me although the emails with Yishai Beeri were fun. In the last minute, it stayed platonic.

Continuing, I proceeded with Bopgig using US-based developers after the TechAviv comp.

In April 2011, I went to TheMarker Com.Vention while still working on Bopgig.

And that was my final tech conference attended in Israel… for now.

* NB: I also attended OpenCoffee Club and GarageGeeks meetups. In addition, I went to a few one-off events, some even in the CleanTech space as I was interested in wave energy and I was working on an idea called WaveTrific.

Note: Izhar Shay is shown here because I came across him more than any other person out of all the tech events I went to in Israel (except for Shai Tsur.) He even spoke at the IVA Annual Conference 2006 – its press release was removed some months ago (shown at top.)

I even met with Mr Shay after that event with regards to GrooveTip and an internship. In that meeting I suggested that he start a blog, but he said he was interested in keeping a low-profile. It is surprising to see how that self-image has changed over the years. He moved into politics in 2019 alongside Benny Gantz at the time I was working on Ormus King 5.

At the 2006 IVA event, I remember Shay saying on stage something like “the enemies of Israel are not with us anymore” – what did he mean by that? Who can speak for Israel as a whole? What was he talking about? People found to be enemies already residing within Israel? Was that going to be me? Did he mean the enemies of the Jews or the enemies of Israel …am I not remembering correctly? At Aish HaTorah Essentials in 2005, Rabbi Ken Spiro mentioned the enemies of the Jews all eventually disappearing in his WorldPerfect talk.

Also, I don’t necessarily agree with Shay, Iran has been a nuclear threat to Israel since the early 2000s. In 2021, to me going after Iran (as has been done) is like someone chasing their own shadow. Why haven’t they disappeared yet?

At TWS2008 (Prime Sagol), Shay walked up to me outside the hall and acted entitled to hear a pitch of mine. I think he saw me speaking to his friend Ofer Wald and that demonstrated some sort of social proof, yet at the time I was already speaking to many entrepreneurs over email, and had even met a few in person. I even covered TWS on my blog.

Before he left, he asked about who my relatives were in Israel, to which I replied an aunt. Perhaps I told him her name as well, or I told him her name at our initial meeting at Aroma (Herzliya Pituach.) I did not end up pitching to him and I think that irritated him. He also blatantly inspected the top of my head, I presume to see if I was wearing a yarmulka. So I was “off the derech,” but was I ever on it ?!?

From 3 days to around a week later an IDF officer thumped 3 times very loudly on my door at the Great Twitya Pad.

I was sweating after having been rollerblading. He spoke in very loud Hebrew but I could only reply in English. He kept speaking, but I didn’t understand. He walked off in a huff. At the time I was over 26 – the usual conscript age-limit.

I think I was geolocated using my phone and was to have “rank pulled” on me. Then again, this officer may have just been lost or looking for directions. Many people did knock on my door, but I’ll never know – I doubt it though because he was very directed in the way he walked off and the knocking and tone of voice was abnormal.

At the TechAviv Town Hall Meeting on 2 Sep 2009, Mr Shay came and sat two seats away with his new associate (I think it was Adi Pundak-Mintz) right next to me. Shai Tsur (who I had first met before at the 2006 IVA Conference) sat down a chair or two away at about the same time. Scott Tobin (and his associate David Sokolic) sat behind me who I even said a few words to when he forgot something mid public intro. The only thing Mr Shay said to me was “you can stay” while looking at Gil Dibner who was sitting on the riser – and that’s the last thing I heard him say directly to me. Also, when I introduced myself to the room (I remained seated) and announced my idea for BopGig to sell downloads and tickets, he leaned over in full view of everyone and tried to disrupt me – or at least signal to the room something about me – something bad I presume. I got the impression that he was smug about his new associate also seated next to me – a position I may have taken when I was interested in an internship back in 2006.

Then, when someone spoke to the room and complained about VCs micro-managing entrepreneurs, I saw a few people begin staring at Mr Shay. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did micro-manage entrepreneurs. I also got the impression that he had Anal retentiveness * back at TWS 2008  when he checked to see if I was wearing a yarmulka (mentioned above) because he also blatantly checked my shoes. I was wearing Converse All-Star at the time.  He also exhibited some strange body language where he was looking around to see who was looking at him. ​Anal retentiveness is something that I think can be determined with certain micro-expressions such as leaning onto tiptoes and staring intensely onto people – something Mr Shay did to me.​ It can also be overcome with Yoga. That’s my own theory (I’ve seen someone else with AR tendencies do it to me) and Anal retentiveness also doesn’t need to be taken literally in terms of someone with a tense sphincter and could be used as an adjective of someone’s character.

* I deny being vindictive here although I am passing judgement – as I perceive he and others have done to me. I have no ill will. In practice, it means he is someone I would not actively seek association with in the future – and he probably feels the same! Who needs the stress?!?

When I first met Izhar Shay in late 2006 after 2 thoughtful cold-emails to obtain such a meeting (after hearing him at IVA 2006 – he came across as very smart,) his expression turned to horror when he first saw me – there was no profile pic of me online prior to that. Also, when I first met Mr Dibner at Genesis Partners, he initially shook my hand like he was holding a wet rag that he wanted to let go of as soon as humanly possible. At least they met me, but was there hidden prejudice?

That said, I should never have setup those meetings and I had a strong feeling not to go to those meetings or get too involved in that scene at all. Those were timelines I was (and am?) steering clear of. However, the rational, business-oriented, western-trained mind is very strong. Rather, I think my role was to simply live in the holy cities, avoid cults and meet whoever I needed to meet. Even my time studying Gemara was really too powerful for comfort. If I was a Torah master in a previous life, why should I become one again? I can just dream up knowledge whenever it’s needed. Sometimes one doesn’t need to learn.. they need to remember.

Continuing, when Mr Shay finally stood to leave the event, the final look in his eye (as he looked at mine) was very strange, like he was on a mission and something had gone very awry. Maybe it was part of a “Tom and Jerry” scene that I mentioned in Israel Revisited because the look corresponded to my previous discussion with him at TWS2008 (mentioned above) that may have resulted in an IDF officer thumping on my door a few days later.

When Mr Dibner introduced himself, I saw Mr Shay on the edge of his seat (to my left) and ready to tackle me to the ground like I was about to pull a gun or throw something at the riser. Then, when Mr Dibner introduced himself, I got the impression that Mr Dibner was very faintly crying for a few moments whereby I heard (and saw) a sniffle or two just as his boss Jonathan Saacks stared at him (from a few meters) to his left in slight embarrassment (possibly anger.) Yet although there might have been guilt, I doubt there was shame whereby despite all odds, I had made it to a sought-after entrepreneurs’ meetup where people were supposed to help each other and not hinder each other. To me, this only signaled to those opposed to me to step up their efforts. “Why is this Adrian guy even here?”

Ofer Wald, Shai Tsur and Yoav Leitersdorf weren’t too keen to speak to me at this event. Interestingly, I spoke to both Wald and Tsur pretty easily at the next TechAviv event and even have a recording of that (see further down). That next event was after TechAviv Angels.

  • By the end of that meetup, there were people overflowing into the entry hall unable to find a seat and I vaguely recall seeing David Nordell and also Erez Perlmuter who I chatted with briefly as I did also at Eurekamp sitting at a table.

Two months later I later went to the Nov ’09 Meetup and then straight afterward got a lift to the Tel Aviv Hilton with Boris Nadion and his team to meet up with my mother and grandmother. Initially in the foyer a bunch of guys were staring hard at me with the ‘evil eye’ until I turned my back on them – why?

While I sat near Nadion and his team during the actual talk, at that event I ended up speaking to many people in the foyer and auditorium and I actually recorded those conversations (including with Nadion) along with much of the talk itself. Someone even kindly gave me Yossi Vardi’s mobile number. I was ready to continue interviewing my grandmother that night at her hotel, and I decided to place my recorder in my pocket. This allowed me to later evaluate my pitching style and rapport.

Continuing, I had already spoken to Nadion at iDrink #9 (see pic higher up with him next to Sun Microsystems logo.) I had also met with Nadion and his team prior to iDrink as a team-for-hire. I almost hired them for Bopgig but ended up using the USA guys I found on Hacker News.

Also, I was at a Water Tech event in Tel Aviv (Watec 2009) around a week earlier, and Shai Tsur when he was standing next to me whispered in the ears of a couple of people sitting down close to him and their expressions turned to horror as they stared at me (very similar to Mr Shay above.) What did he say to them? Was it about me? I think they may have been partners at his firm Giza Venture Capital. All I was interested in was wave energy (my WaveTrific bringing SDE to Australia via Energy Matters) and water desalination. It was during the afternoon, outside, and underneath a sun-shade. Interestingly, SDE turned out to be basically ineffective in delivering, so I moved on.

Also, another Israeli firm Eco Wave Power adopted an essentially identical design to SDE in 2011 as founded by an ex staff-member, Inna Braverman.

I wonder if this design will ever become popular without a massive shift in consciousness – not that the tech isn’t good, but due to “industry resistance” – same with zero-point (free) energy. Eco Wave Power has only seen 2 small-scale installations setup so far. Is society ready to move to wave energy on a large-scale or will it stagnate? However, it is publically listed so that should bring encouragement.

Moreover, I highly doubt their design has defensible IP due to the Prior Art of the SDE system that was launched in 2010.

… I should hope so. Mr Ovadia has many patents listed on his LinkedIn page.  Wouldn’t Eco Wave Power’s clash with these? Are Mr Ovadia’s patents still valid? Are they in the public domain?

Interestingly, Mr Ovadia filed a patent in 2013 that was withdrawn in 2014 suggesting he wasn’t collaborating with EWP at that time… or was he? Maybe Mr Ovadia has a stake in EWP or they have licensed his designs. Maybe not. I also wonder if Ms Braverman signed a non-compete with SDE as I did.

With regards to Braverman, I was in extensive email communications with SDE and I met the CEO Shmuel Ovadia in person twice (first in October 2008 with a family member present.)

At one point, I showed him the sales agreement I received via email and he was shocked to see it. I ended up using that agreement to talk to Energy Matters (via Jeremy Rich) in Australia.

Mr Ovadia spoke English reasonably well but all the emails from SDE were of very high proficiency and were sent from “Shmuel Ovadia” in the footer (unless that was blank.) More than likely it was either Ms Braverman or someone else acting as an intermediary for Mr Ovadia, and even a sole source. I ended up emailing General Electric on SDE’s behalf to request a meeting for finance, to no avail.

Mr Rich’s (middle below) main concern about the SDE device at first was corrosion from salt and mine was the physical security of the system. I had known Mr Rich since primary school. We could have fairly easily got that wave device setup and even distributed if SDE had been more willing and able –  although I was still a bit hesitant of the final design with hydraulic arms exposed – and still am with EWP. It seems deceiving in the EWP video above that the hydraulic arms aren’t shown. I had already worked at Energy Matters a year or two earlier on their IT and Mr Rich was very enthusiastic about the idea of wave energy – also he probably didn’t want to compete with me.

I did actually come up with some designs of my own that I mentioned (but didn’t actually show) to SDE over email, including the logo above. As mentioned, I also signed a non-compete agreement with SDE and SDE threatened to sue me at one point. I wonder if that was Ms Braverman who made that threat because she was ready to compete directly with SDE and didn’t want me implementing that indefensible buoy design with Energy Matters exclusively. Or was it actually Mr Ovadia worried I’d work directly with that design without him? I really need to know more about who was working at SDE during those years. There may have been someone else working there and Inna Braverman has never heard of me.

Australia should have a good wave energy sector and the SDE / EWP floating buoy design can be a great starting point for anyone, anywhere. If EWP can use SDE’s design, then anyone can.

I have the idea that pivoting buoys identical to SDE and EWP should be built within (or retrofitted) to the pylons of off-shore windfarms and drive flywheel accumulators rather than
electro-hydraulic accumulators (as with SDE and EWP) kept within each pylon. Then, if wave heights get too high (which can be sensed by windspeed), the buoy should be retracted into the pylon or elevated up the outside of the pylon. Can I do that without legal repercussions? EWP seems only limited to breakwaters at present. Thus, don’t windfarms still have this opportunity to obtain more energy in this way? Finally, couldn’t someone directly copy EWP and then challenge EWP’s patents based on the existence of SDE’s patents and videos?

Unlike the Porsche flywheel, the ocean flywheel would be driven mechanically by the buoy’s oscillation, but similarly it would use a torque-vectoring device on the wheel, offering resistance to its spin and the buoy’s oscillation to create current.

Best of luck to Ms Braverman regardless: perhaps she can start a fashion blog too.

Not just knee deep?

Continuing, later Shay ignored an email I sent to Canaan Partners about Seedcamp (or Startup Stadium) while I was doing Bopgig (around 2012.) Some years later (around 2017) he even befriended my Israeli cousin Dhalia on Facebook after I made my friends list public – I’m still unsure if it was a coincidence or not.

All very odd indeed – and overall that’s how I would describe this person based on experiences interacting with him.

Yet at the same time, one of my VC blog posts in late 2006 was about Mr Shay, and perhaps he found this odd – I don’t know but I did email him a link about it and spoke in the meeting about Awarenex. I said Awarenex would only be open to high net-worth individuals… accredited investors.

On the topic of tickets, I actually worked closely with a startup CEO in 2003-04 which sold tickets (Moshtix) and it was acquired in 2007. I helped it expand from Sydney to Melbourne. Its first signup was Bennetts Lane and I was at the initial sales meeting – one of many I helped setup. In hindsight, I should’ve also invested in Moshtix – and it was a real possibility to do so at the time.

While I don’t have a picture of Mr Dibner at the Town Hall Meeting (2 Sep 2009) – I didn’t take any, he and others mentioned are on the event’s attendees page (marked in red below.) I am currently shown as ‘Former Member.’ I also did comment on the event’s blog post, username Twitya.

Also, Mr Dibner can be found on the TechAviv members page from 1 Sep 2009 and Mr Shay and myself can additionally be found on the members page from 1 October 2009.

As mentioned, Jonathan Saacks was at this event as was Eden Shochat (both Genesis Partners – Mr Dibner’s firm.)

At one point, Saacks stood up and said “we back winners” while looking at me. Saacks is listed on the TechAviv Angels screenshot above, as is someone from Canaan Partners (Daniel Ciporin) – Shay’s firm at the time.

Also, there are additional people who were aware of me at this event to varying degrees. One person was Yoav Leitersdorf, a VC who I had interviewed for Launchpadisrael.com and who I worked for remotely for a few days. Another person was Ofer Wald, an entrepreneur who I had last spoken to at TWS2008 (mentioned above.) Ofer held Shay in high regard. At this meetup I was wearing my long-lost “Tara” cap and would’ve stood-out as I was the only one wearing a cap.

I did enjoy the event except for the underlying drama, which made imprints on my mind.

On the topic of Dark Retribution, earlier in the year I was removed from the IVC-Online industry database.

This was created 3 days prior to the Town Hall Meeting and so I was expecting drama, especially since I had already seen what happened at Eurekamp.

A further oddity occurred on 8 June 2010, when I was blocked from viewing the Genesis Partners website after sending them a message through a form. It was around this time Mr Dibner moved from Genesis Partners to another firm in Israel – see his profile (snippet below).

I applied to Seedcamp Europe 2012 after meeting Reshma at TWS2008. I was rejected from that in around September 2012 and stopped working on the site at around the same time and focused on Bitcoin. Philipp (@pmoe) was fired (or quit) Seedcamp in December 2013 who I had been communicating with up until my application for some months.

Regarding Mr Dibner, who I have only met with once and only replied to the first of his two group emails sent to me. The first one was sent regarding leaving Genesis Partners and the second about starting at Gemini – both in mid 2010. My reply was a one sentence trivial response. But why did he even write to me at all? Also with regards to my blog post about Mr Dibner in late 2006 (1 of 3 blog posts regarding VC meetings I was having at the time), the only controversial thing I remember to have written was something akin to: “As such, we did not proceed with further discussions.” So I was saying in my blog post that I was rejected from him and that firm with regards to my ideas and propositions. Going into the meeting I did not sign an NDA and I recall sending a link to that blog post to the person that setup the meeting initially via email. Later I sent a link to the post to Mr Dibner personally, to which he did not reply.

In January 2014, he posted “Towards a VC code of conduct” [archive] which alerted me to the fact that I was potentially dealing with someone consciously hypocritical, and in looking back today I think he was just being silly or else treacherous. Probably hateful (see twitter results below.) That’s just my own opinion because no one with a “Code of Conduct” would ever do anything to harm someone, right? Also, that article had/has an image of the 10 commandments at top, why? Are they interchangeable?

By July 2014, I put up a picture on my FB.

Within a few months (possibly days) he put up a similar picture on his Twitter.

A dangerous chap. But he may not be wholly responsible for his actions if he has been strongly influenced by others and that is a real possibility.

Note: unlike Anakin, actual *baseless* hatred is still real amongst Jews – especially in Israel as sensed by myself and others. It’s the opposite of mateship – it’s hateship. Furthermore, in a documentary on prison life I saw once, an inmate said that many people would love the opportunity to “hate on” someone else – it’s an emotional outlet. Anakin had reasons for his hate even if they were based on complete misapprehensions. Baseless hatred on the other hand is like free-floating anxiety – no real cause.

Continuing, in his Crunchbase profile above, it mentions him being a team member at Yedda. Was he aware of all the tips I had sent that startup when he was defaming me at Eurekamp in 2009 (my contention) as mentioned in Part 2? Did/would those tips make him jealous?

At that point I blocked his FB. I then unblocked it in September 2015 at which point he almost instantly deactivated his FB. He deactivated his Instagram too, I am almost certain.

His wife (Millia) also deactivated her FB at exactly the same time… why? (*I never had anything to do with her or his family in any way, shape or form*)  I only knew about her due to his mention or reference to her, and I wasn’t following her.

7 years later Mr Dibner’s twitter profile picture still remains (as of 15 Mar 2022) and the aeroplane header picture has been there for almost the same amount of time.

I suspect he was following my FB for many years due to some similarly-themed posts although I might be wrong. That was a concern of mine. Was I in for more surprises offline? Would that have anything to do with him anyway?

The real crux and importance of this exposé is that people have disappeared in Israel after I have met and become friends with (starting in 2014) … and this should be elaborated upon in the greater specifics of Dark Retribution. In fact, I suspect an entire business that I worked for was shutdown. This was the CU-agency (2nd or 3rd floor, 50 Yitzhak Sadeh street, Tel Aviv) soon after mid-2017 when I mentioned it on FB in my resume and its manager Sharon.

It’s absurd, and I really might be wrong here, and even if I am, there are still many more examples to contend with.

But to me, it’s not about winning some high stakes game, it’s rather about waking up from an epic dream!

Fast and loose race at a slow and steady pace!

The story of Bopgig is a long one –  and not without hiccups.

2000: The name comes to mind.

GrooveTip in its inception was about tipping artists in the same way people tip street buskers. FairTunes.com (2000) worked on that concept, which had a WinAmp plugin. I took an interest in media metadata at the time as that should’ve contained the information for any funds to travel back to content creators.

I had thought… “once people have downloaded songs from Napster… then what?” … ideally, a voluntary tip by the listener/viewer to the creator!
